Sewing schools in the district of Nellore: Help for India

A proven concept of our partner INDIENHILFE (INDIA AID) is the housing of sewing schools in small chapels of the local congregations. When not used for congregation purposes, the chapels are easily transformed into sewing schools in which 15 pupils receive instruction from dedicated teachers during the week.

The Nellore Baptist Field Association supports five of these sewing schools with a total of 75 training places in the localities of Mohammadapuram, Edagali, Varigonda, Christiva Mitta and Padugupadu. In the near future, a sixth sewing school in Thukivakam should be added with 15 more training places.

As is also common with the other partners, the pupils receive a sewing machine as starting capital after completing their one-year training programme. Only a quarter of the cost of their machine do the pupils have to contribute themselves.

The close connection to the local congregations also facilitates spiritual support for the pupils. Furthermore, the congregation members identify very strongly with “their” charitable projects.
