The “Home of Hope” opened in June 2000 in two rented houses south of Chennai after a long preparation period. At that time, 30 children lived here. The new building completed in 2002 offered space for 40 children. In 2010, the last increase from 50 to 55 children, all “Adivasi,” i.e. India’s original inhabitants, took place. The Adivasi in particular live in abject poverty and suffer from a lack of school education. The illiteracy rate among adults is overwhelmingly high. That is why not only physical care, but also, above all, regularly attending school is a great blessing for children in the home because it offers the opportunity for a better life.
On the grounds of the children's home, there is also a well for providing drinking water and a surrounding wall. Although the resources of the supporting organisation “R. Christian Memorial Trust” are very limited, they work very diligently with the funds provided by EBM INDIA, and the people in charge regularly express great appreciation for the many donations.
