Evangelisation and congregation foundation

Congregation foundation in Cameroon: EBM AFRICA

Evangelisation and the foundation of congregations are important areas of church work in Cameroon. The Union Eglises Baptistes du Cameroun (UEBC) is involved in many evangelisation projects and the foundation of congregations, along with supporting already existing congregations. The EBM supports this work not only through European colleagues in the training of evangelists and in project support, but also through funds for congregation foundation work.

In North Cameroon, this is primarily done in the area around Yagoua, in the province of Extrême-Nord (Extreme North). In South Cameroon, congregation foundation projects are being promoted in Yaoundé and its surroundings. This involves a careful and sustained project design where the partners take responsibility: Targets are set; financial plans for evangelisation, congregation foundations and construction projects are developed and then discretely implemented by the local congregations.

The evangelisation work concentrates on four areas: the general and ongoing training of employees, the creation of material for distribution, the holding of evangelisation events as well as follow-up work and the support of congregation foundation projects.

In the cities, founding congregations is particularly costly. The young congregations are often very small and economically weak. Many more meeting places are also necessary to reach the people in the disadvantaged residential areas.
