Vocational training for women

One of the millennium goals of the United Nations (UN) is equal rights for men and women. By 2015, the discrimination of women and girls in education, job opportunities and income, health and nutrition should be eliminated. Above all, in African countries south of the Sahara, the fight against poverty largely depends on the encouragement of women. There, women do about 70 per cent of the work in agriculture. We want to support the interests of young girls and women. And so we are supporting them by giving young girls in Figuil/North Cameroon two years of vocational training in sewing and stitching. One day a week there is a classroom lesson. On the other four days, the young women receive practical lessons in various factories in the city of Figuil. Now, computer courses are also being offered and next year, there is to be training in the area of horticulture and landscaping, and professional welding training for young men.
