Medicine for Sierra Leone: Aid to Africa

The Baptist Convention of Sierra Leone (BCSL) runs a number of clinics and a mobile outpatient department that is in very high demand. The general poverty in Sierra Leone contributes to the fact that many people only come to the clinics very late, since they cannot pay for the treatment costs. Often, it is then too late for any help. Besides the clinics in Kassirie and Nonkoba, there is an eye clinic that is located in Lunsar. Blind people and aid for daily life are offered there. In courses they learn how to remain mobile, care for their families and perform house and handicraft work.

At all clinics there are insufficient medical devices. Often there is not even enough clean water. Pumps and generators are needed. The infrastructure around the hospitals is also very challenging, which makes the work even more difficult.
