Theological Education in Central Africa

Pastors in Africa are not only theologians, but also teachers, counsellors, spiritual and social development aid workers, as well as conflict mediators in cases of societal emergencies and problems. They are people who preach the word of God and provide comprehensive care for people in society and respect them.  They are urgently needed in Africa.

The Union Fraternelle Eglise Baptiste (UFEB) of the Central African Republic runs four theological training sites. Here, young men and women are given qualified training for pastoral service.

In Bangui, there are two education centres: the inter-denominational theological seminary FATEB and the Baptist theological seminary ETEB. In the north-eastern villages of the Central African Republic, Kembé und Kanga – Bandor, evangelists and pastors are trained in one bible school. Additionally, theological distance teaching is also offered, which is to be replaced by a discipleship training in the future.

Overall, 100 students are trained in the institutions and half of them through theological distance teaching. It is gratifying that the wives of the students are also studying.

In one of the poorest countries in Africa, the training of pastors encounters many problems: There is no drinking water in Kembé and Bandoro; there are often no accommodations in Bangui.
Furthermore, there is usually not the possibility of receiving food or medical care.
