Literacy courses for adults

Aid to Africa, Mozambique Literacy

Learning to read, write and do math is not taken for granted in Africa, especially for girls. Basic math and the ABC often become the foundations on which to build their lives. A person’s education and training regularly determines if they are going to stand a chance and, if so, what future they have, and whether they can shape and develop their life responsibly and independently.

In Tres de Fevereiro, Messano, Incaia and Beira, literacy courses are offered for adults.

This work is especially necessary in rural areas.

For women, these opportunities are very important because they not only contribute to a better economic situation for the family, but can also gain more self-respect.

Women make up almost 100% of the participants in the literacy programmes.

Besides learning to read and write, there are some courses on handicraft, stitching, sewing and housekeeping, as well as the prevention of HIV/AIDS.
