Feeding poor children from tribes in the district of Nellore

Feeding poor children - EBM INDIA

Approx. 700 undernourished and malnourished Adivasi children and 100 poorly fed mothers with sugared milk are fed every day. This also includes an egg twice a week. Only in this way do children and women obtain enough protein and other nutrients that are indispensible for their healthy development and the production of breast milk.

The meals are distributed on an alternating basis in 15 different villages of the Nellore district by just as many evangelists from our Indian partner Abundant Life Ministerial Associates (ALMA), and it is done in consultation with the village elders. Since 1999 INDIENHILFE (INDIA AID) has been bearing in full the material costs and a small share of the personnel costs for the distribution. ALMA and its many voluntary assistants contribute to this meal programme.

The original inhabitants of India describe themselves as "Adivasi" (which literally means "the first people"). By the government, they are described as "tribals" or "scheduled tribes". As outcastes, they continue to have very little chance of equal treatment in Indian society.
