Ophthalmic department in the Christian Medical Centre in Pithapuram

As in Vuyyuru, the eye work began in Pithapuram in 1980 thanks to complete financing of the operating personnel and material costs by INDIENHILFE. The administration for CMC Pithapuram is however handled by Christoffel Blindenmission (Christoffel Mission for the Blind) to this day. The latter also had the 40-bed eye hospital facility built in 1983/84.

Due to the very extensive village work through which the poorest part of the local population is reached, the now quite high income of the hospital can still only cover 50 % of the operating expenses. Then there is also the need for investments in medical devices, building renovation and the regular maintenance of the minibuses that must be financed. Today, the aid of EBM INDIA is focused directly on this.

In terms of efficiency, by the way, CMC Pithapuram lies at the top of all eye work with 1,755 cataract operations in 2009.
