Mokolo Protestant College

Something that is a great privilege in Africa is often considered an annoying obligation in Europe: regularly attending school. To give the greatest possible number of children and young adults the opportunity to attend school and thus a chance to have a dignified life, the EBM has advocated the development and expansion of educational institutions.

Over 500 pupils are taught by 35 teachers in the Protestant College in the north-Cameroon city of Mokolo. The goal of this school education is graduation. Many of the pupils gain the opportunity to study at university. That is something special in this structure-weak region of Cameroon. Girls in particular are encouraged!

The good final results show substantial progress in comparison to past years. Both the girls and the boys must take conventional lessons and courses in practical areas and in household management. The number of Muslims and Catholics showing interest in the school is growing. The school experience is also enriched with sports and cultural activities. Some classes are also taught on a two-track basis; for others this is planned. Through additional scholarships, pupils are encouraged and perform at a higher level.

Soon, more classrooms will be built and the number of pupils increased.
