Leper aid and social work

Leper aid and social work - INDIA aid

The infectious disease of leprosy can be healed, but has still not disappeared. Many lepers conceal their disease for a long time due to discrimination. Particularly women identified with leprosy have great difficulties. They cannot find a husband, which in turn places a financial and social burden on their parents. At some point, they leave their home and can only spend their life begging. To this extent, treatment, curing or operations are only one side of the issue. Social rehabilitation is just as important, the re-integration of the healthy person back into the community.

The leprosy missions in Amancherla and Poolbaugh always try to treat the lepers with extensive medical care and give them words of comfort.  After all, this is not only about medical care being given, but also about spiritual support. We must not forget that most of them had lost their jobs and were expelled from their villages. Even the children were excluded from school.

In the Leprosy Mission, they find fellow sufferers with whom they can share the experience of having been healed. Here, nobody fears touching the sick, cleaning their wounds and bandaging them. Old invalids are also regularly given meals.
